Glalie (Japaneseオニゴーリ Onigohri) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Snorunt starting at level 42. It is one of Snorunt's final forms, the other being Froslass.

Glalie can Mega Evolve into Mega Glalie using the Glalitite.

Biology

Glalie is a spherical Pokémon that consists of a black rock core covered by ice. The icy covering has several holes and spaces across this Pokémon's body. Blue eyes and a mouth with flat teeth are visible through three of these holes. There are two large, black, conical horns on either side of Glalie's head.

Mega Glalie's jaw is dislocated because of the overwhelming energy, causing its mouth to extend to the length of its face. The lower jaw is all black except for two light-blue, conical, icy spikes. The pupils in Mega Glalie's eyes are now red instead of black. The horns on top Mega Glalie's head have been partially turned into ice, with the addition of a third horn on its forehead.

Glalie's icy body is actually rock that is not particularly hard. It does not melt, and it can control ice by instantly freezing moisture in the air into any desirable shape. This ability is used to drape itself in ice armor and freeze its prey, which it then consumes whole. It prefers consuming Pokémon like Vanillite that are already frozen though. It can be found in caves, particularly when the outside weather lacks snow. Mega Glalie can spill endless blizzards from its broken mouth, though it gets irritated by the fact that it can no longer consume its prey.

X To protect itself, it clad its body in an armor of ice, made by freezing moisture in the air.
Y It can instantly freeze moisture in the atmosphere. It uses this power to freeze its foes.
Omega Ruby Glalie has a body made of rock, which it hardens with an armor of ice. This Pokémon has the ability to freeze moisture in the atmosphere into any shape it desires.
Alpha Sapphire Glalie has the ability to freely control ice. For example, it can instantly freeze its prey solid. After immobilizing its prey in ice, this Pokémon enjoys eating it in leisurely fashion.

Sun Legend says a boulder on an icy mountain absorbed the distress and regrets of a stranded mountaineer, giving rise to Glalie.
Moon Its prey is instantaneously frozen stiff by the cold air it exhales from its huge mouth. While they're in that frozen state, it gobbles them up.
Ultra Sun It freezes its prey and chews them whole. However, it prefers to eat Pokémon like Vanillite that are already frozen.
Ultra Moon Its actual body is a rock that isn't particularly hard. Glalie absorbs moisture from the air and drapes itself in an armor of ice.
Mega Glalie
Sun The excess energy from Mega Evolution spilled over from its mouth, breaking its jaw. It spews endless blizzards.
Moon It envelops prey in its mouth, freezing them instantly. But its jaw is dislocated, so it's unable to eat them.
Ultra Sun When it spews stupendously cold air from its broken mouth, the entire area around it gets whited out.
Ultra Moon The power of Mega Evolution was so strong that it smashed Glalie's jaw. Its inability to eat very well leaves Glalie irritated.

Trivia

  • Glalie shares all of its base stats with Phione.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Snorunt trophy incorrectly claims that only male Snorunt evolve into Glalie.

Origin

Glalie is based on human features, most likely on a cold, distant person or facial expression. It also looks somewhat similar to an ice hockey mask. Due to its horns and teeth, it may be based on a standard oni or possibly even onigiri (rice ball), as its Japanese name suggests. It also resembles a hailstone.

Name origin

Glalie may be a combination of glacier and goalie.

Onigohri is a combination of 鬼 oni (demon) and 氷 kōri (ice). It may also be a pun on onigiri, which it slightly resembles. Gohri also bears phonetic similarity to goalie.
