Leafeon (Japaneseリーフィア Leafia) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from Eevee when it is leveled up near a Moss Rock (from Generations IV to VII) or exposed to a Leaf Stone (in Generation VIII). It is one of Eevee's final forms, the others being VaporeonJolteonFlareonEspeonUmbreonGlaceon, and Sylveon.

Biology

Leafeon is a mammalian, quadrupedal Pokémon. Its body is tan with dark brown paws. It has a multitude of small green sprouts growing all over its legs, chest, and back, with the longest one on its head, in front of four tan tufts of fur. Leafeon's ears and tail are stylized to resemble tattered leaves. It has brown eyes and a small, brown nose.

This Pokémon's cellular structure is similar to plants, which allows it to perform photosynthesis and purify the air around it by sleeping under the sunlight; it gets its energy in this way instead of eating. It is a pacifistic, quiet Pokémon, preferring not to fight, though sharpens its leafy tail for the occasions it needs to. Its aroma is similar to fresh grass in its youth; as it ages, this fragrance bears more of a resemblance to fallen leaves. The aroma is favored in Galar, where it is used to compose a popular perfume. It lives in lush forests that have clean rivers.

Trivia

  • According to the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Umbreon have identical footprints.
  • As there is no Moss Rock in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, it is impossible to evolve Eevee into a Leafeon in these games. The same applies for MagnezoneProbopass, and Glaceon. All have to be traded from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum to be obtained.
  • Despite Eevee being obtainable before the Pokémon League in Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, it cannot evolve into Leafeon or Glaceon until after the Elite Four is defeated. This is because the Pinwheel Forest, where the Moss Rock is located, cannot be reached until that point in the game, as the entrance to the Skyarrow Bridge is blocked.
  • Leafeon was designed by Atsuko Nishida.[1]
  • Leafeon has the highest base Defense stat of all Eeveelutions.
    • It also has the lowest base Special Defense stat of all Eeveelutions.
  • Leafeon is tied with Umbreon for the lowest base Special Attack stat of all Eeveelutions.
  • Leafeon evolving via the Leaf Stone in Generation VIII might be a reference to the Pokémon Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo, where Eevee can evolve into Rīfi (リーフィ) with the Leaf Stone.

Origin

Leafeon bears many similarities to cats and foxes, such as their behaviors like tree climbing, and its cry sounds similar to a cat's meow or a fox's chirp. Its coloration appears to be inspired by the markings found on animals like the Siamese cat or the red fox. It also has traits of plants, such as the ability to utilize photosynthesis. The brown marks of its paws give the appearance that they were buried. In Japan, and around the world, there are stories about domesticated animals that upon entering the forest become wild and eventually become one with it. Leafeon could be an exaggerated example of this story.

Name origin

Leafeon is a combination of leaf and eon (an immeasurably long period of time, possibly referring to how long evolution takes naturally). Eon is a suffix all Eevee evolutions share and was Eevee's English prototype name.

Leafia is derived from leaf.
