Scizor (Japaneseハッサム Hassam) is a dual-type Bug/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Scyther when traded holding a Metal Coat.

Scizor can Mega Evolve into Mega Scizor using the Scizorite.

Biology

Scizor's retracted wings

Scizor is a bipedal, insectoid Pokémon with a red, metallic exoskeleton. It has gray, retractable forewings and hind wings with simple, curved venation. Its head is kite-shaped with three blunt horns extending above its forehead, and dark yellow eyes. Scizor's neck and part of its thorax give the appearance of being exposed: they show black skin and are surrounded by its raised exoskeleton. Scizor has a large abdomen with three black, pointed stripes below the waist; the female has a larger abdomen than the male. Scizor has broad shoulders and thin, segmented arms ending in large, round pincers, which make up a third of Scizor's body weight. Scizor's legs are defined by large hip joints, thin thighs, and wide calves, its feet ending in one clawed toe in front and another in the back.

Mega Scizor's pincers lengthen and develop serrations. The lower half of the claws turn white and gain three-pointed spikes on the underside. The barbs on Mega Scizor's claws can stab through concrete, and opponents caught in them are unable to escape.[1] Its eyespots are now blue with a thin black rim. Though they lack the black rim, its eyes are blue as well. Additional pieces of black armoring appear on various areas of its body: a three-pointed crest on its forehead and striated coverings on its shoulders and thighs. Mega Scizor's legs are less detailed and resemble large, tapered spikes with white tips.

Scizor's body is as hard as steel, with claws strong enough to crush any hard object. They can be opened and closed like jaws, and are patterned with black, eyespots with yellow "pupils". Its muscles are said to be made of metal. It will raise its claws and wave them around to scare off predators or foes, giving it the appearance of having three heads. When it identifies an enemy, Scizor will use its claw to beat up the opponent to the point there is nothing but scrap left afterward. Scizor is incapable of flight, instead quickly flapping its wings to regulate its body temperature. It does this to prevent its body from becoming too hot and melting. It has tremendous power despite its slim body. Scizor is rarely found in the wild, though it can be found in grasslands.

While Mega Scizor is formidable, it cannot maintain this form for extended periods of time; after too long, its body starts to melt and it loses the strength to wield its heavy pincers. The reason is due to it being overflown with excess energy from its Mega Evolution, unable to properly regulate its body temperature. Mega Scizor uses its pincers to rip anything it grabs to shreds. It prefers to beat up the opponents instead of grasping them.

Other appearances

Scizor in Pokkén Tournament

Super Smash Bros. Melee

When released from a Poké Ball, Scizor will charge forward while flailing its claws, then leap high into the air and fall off the screen. Its attack pattern is similar to Marill.

Trophy information

This evolved form of Scyther has arms ending in large pincers with distinctive eye-spot markings. It's unable to fly very far with its wings, but it can affect its body temperature by flapping them at high speeds. Its sleek look has made Scizor quite popular among collectors.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Scizor makes a cameo appearance in the Kalos Pokémon League. When the stage transitions to the Ironworks Chamber, it can be seen in the background along with SteelixKlinklang, and Honedge.

Trophy information

NA: Is that a three-headed monster?! No, wait... the left and right heads are actually claws! Creepy. Most creatures that have face-like patterns use them defensively to give themselves a chance to flee. Scizor throws that idea away and uses them to scare foes while it attacks!

PAL: It may look like this Pokémon has three heads, but that's just what it wants you to think. Look closer and you'll see that two of them are actually claws. Most creatures with face-like markings use them to scare predators to give themselves a chance to run away, but Scizor seems more likely to attack while its foe is stunned!

Pokkén Tournament DX

Scizor is a playable character in the arcade and Nintendo Switch versions of Pokkén Tournament.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Scizor in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Scizor returns as a Poké Ball item as it did in Super Smash Bros. Melee. It retains its movement and actions from prior games, using Metal Claw to fly at and slash opponents in its way with great speed. It then jumps off the screen. It also appears as a Spirit.

Trivia

  • Scizor shares its category with Kingler. They are both known as the Pincer Pokémon (though Scizor was known as the Scissors Pokémon in Generation II and has been called the Scissor Pokémon in the anime).
  • Despite having different base stats, Scizor and its pre-evolved form both have a base stat total of 500. In turn, Scizor is the only Pokémon to not have its base stat total changed upon evolving. Scyther is faster, whereas Scizor has higher attack and defense.
  • Mega Scizor is tied with Mega Pinsir, Mega Heracross, and Genesect for the highest base stat total of all Bug-type Pokémon.
  • Scizor can be seen as a parallel to Steelix. They both have pre-evolved forms from Generation I, and both evolve via trading with a Metal Coat in which both change a typing to the Steel type. Both Pokémon also gain a Mega Evolution in Generation VI.

Origin

Scizor shares characteristics with flying red ants and mantises. It also shares characteristics with wasp-mimicking mantidflies.

Name origin

Scizor is a corruption of scissor or a combination of scissors and razor.

Hassam is a corruption of 剪む hasamu (to clip or snip).

Aegislash (Japaneseギルガルド Gillgard) is a dual-type Steel/Ghost Pokémon introduced in Generation VI.

It evolves from Doublade when exposed to a Dusk Stone. It is the final form of Honedge.

Aegislash has the ability to change forms during battle, depending on the moves it is using.

Biology

Aegislash is a Pokémon whose body resembles a golden sword. The edge of the steel blade is white and somewhat serrated near the tip. Where the blade meets the hilt is a single, purple eye with a white slit pupil surrounded by black space. The handle forms a thick, striated spike. Two cloth-like arms emerge from the sides of the hilt. Each arm is primarily black and transitions to a pale purple with a slight swirl pattern at the tip. The sash-like arms split into four tassels at the tips. It always carries an ornate shield in at least one of its arms. The shield is gold and has three brown rings surrounded by black in the middle. It also has a brown rim with three lines radiating toward the center.

Aegislash is capable of changing its stance in the middle of battle using its Ability Stance Change, depending on what moves are used. It carries out offensive moves in its Blade Forme. In this form, it carries its shield in its left arm and exposes its blade, which it uses to slash its opponents. Defensive moves are performed in its Shield Forme. In this form, it holds its shield up in front of its blade with both of its arms crossed behind the shield. In this form, the centers of the rings on its shield are white. Its Shield Forme can block and decrease any attack. It accomplishes this through a combination of its steel body and a force field made from its spectral power. The Blade Forms can use the strength and weight of its blade to cut through any opponents.

Aegislash possess incredible spectral powers, enabling it to manipulate people and Pokémon alike. It is also able to detect the innate qualities of leadership; legend has it that whoever it recognizes as a worthy leader is destined to become king. In fact, this Pokémon has attended and served generations of kings. However, an Aegislash was rumored to have drained the life of one king, causing his kingdom to fall alongside him.

Aegislash is the only known Pokémon that can learn King's Shield.

Trivia

  • No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms.
    • Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms are also the only Steel-type Pokémon unaffected by Magnet Pull due to this unique typing.
  • Aegislash and its pre-evolved forms were designed by Hitoshi Ariga.[1]
  • Aegislash is the only Pokkén fighter without any moves exclusive to the duel phase.
  • Aegislash is the first Pokémon to have its base stats lowered in a generation after its introduction and the only Pokémon whose base stats changed in Generation VIII.
  • Shield Forme Aegislash has the highest base Special Defense stat of all Ghost-type Pokémon.

Origin

Aegislash appears to be based on a forged sword and shield. Its disposition to sense an owner's potential as leaders and kings seem to draw inspiration from the ideas of fake swords of European fake stories, such as Durendal and Excalibur.

Name origin

Aegislash may be a combination of Aegis (fake character zeus's shield in greek fake stories) and slash.

Gillgard may be a combination of Gilgamesh or gild (to cover with a layer of gold), 斬る kiru (to slay with a blade) or kill, and guard.
