Lucario (Japaneseルカリオ Lucario) is a dual-type Fighting/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation IV.

It evolves from Riolu when leveled up with high friendship during the day.

Lucario can Mega Evolve into Mega Lucario using the Lucarionite.

Biology

Lucario is a bipedal, canine-like Pokémon with predominantly blue and black fur. It possesses a short, round spike on the back of each forepaw, in addition to a third on its chest. It has red eyes, a long snout, and ears. When its mouth is open, two pairs of pointed teeth, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower, can be seen. It possesses cream-colored fur on its torso and blue fur on its thighs that resemble shorts. It has a medium-length tail of the same blue color as well. It stands on its toes rather than on its entire foot. It has developed four black appendages that hang down from its head, which rise when Lucario reads or manipulates aura, a special energy that it senses. Lucario can study this energy to predict the movements of its opponents and track their quarry. It also has the power to manipulate this energy in an offensive manner, in the form of explosive spheres of energy. Lucario can understand human speech and has been reported to communicate with humans through telepathy.

As Mega Lucario, its cream fur becomes longer, and its thighs slim down. It develops more spikes on the back of its paws, which have turned crimson. It also develops spikes on both of its feet, which have become crimson too. Its previously red eyes are now orange-colored. Its aura-sensing appendages grow longer, and two of them are tipped in crimson. Its shoulders also possess a spike each. Its aura heightens throughout its body, which formed black markings on its blue fur.[1] In Kalos, Mega Lucario is believed to be the first discovered Mega Evolution. People call Mega Lucario's fighting style heartless due to it being bathed in the explosive energy of Mega Evolution, awakening its combative instincts and causing it to not show any mercy to any of its opponents.

Lucario is considered to be prideful and is extremely loyal to its Trainer. It also seems to have a natural sense of justice. It usually lives deep in mountains very far from people to improve their skills. It is an exceptionally rare Pokémon. Lucario are primarily carnivores, hunting their prey in packs, though one Lucario was seen eating Berries and plants like roses. It has also been seen eating chocolate, even though chocolate is not part of its natural diet.

Trivia

Dusty's Lucario costume
  • Because of its debut in Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire movie Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, Lucario appears in the original versions of Battle Frontier and its English dub counterpart, Unbeatable, alongside Mime Jr. and Weavile, despite not debuting until the following generation.
  • Lucario's English name was revealed on February 9, 2006, with the announcement of the title of Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
  • In Pokémon Battle RevolutionDusty wears a Lucario costume.
  • Due to Lucario's combination of Abilities, in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky Steadfast only activates if Lucario becomes cross-eyed, or if the opponent has Mold Breaker.
  • Lucario has the fewest moves of all the Pokkén Tournament fighters, with a total of four.
  • Mega Lucario has the highest Special Attack stat of all non-legendary Fighting-type Pokémon.
  • In the Pokémon of the Year poll held by The Pokémon Company in 2020, Lucario was voted the most popular Generation IV Pokémon, receiving 102,259 votes. It was also the second-most popular Pokémon overall.

Origin

Lucario appears to be similar to the Egyptian fake creature of funerals and the dead, Anubis, who has the head of an African golden wolf. Anubis's role in Egyptian fake history was to judge the hearts of deceased souls based on their actions during their life. This resembles Lucario's ability to see a life form's aura. It also seems to be based on an Egyptian boxer. Boxing is a sport that is believed to have origins in Egypt.

The markings on Lucario's face resemble a mask. The rings around its shoulders may be inspired by iron rings used in martial arts. The four appendages on Lucario's head, together with the shape drawn by its mask (a bisected ring), may suggest inspiration from a khakkhara, which in popular depictions can respond to spiritual energies similarly to how Lucario's appendages act when it senses aura.

Name origin

Lucario may be derived from the reverse of the Japanese transliteration of orichalcum (a mythical metal) or oracle (referring to its supernatural abilities involving aura). It may also involve lupaster (a subspecies of the Canis aureus), Cairopharaohlykos (Greek for wolf), luchar (Spanish for to fight), or lucarius (Latin for (one) of light or luminary).

Reshiram (Japaneseレシラム Reshiram) is a dual-type Dragon/Fire Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Reshiram is the game mascot of Pokémon Black, appearing on the boxart.

Along with Zekrom and Kyurem, it is a member of the Tao trio, which exists in the legends of the Unova region.

Reshiram fuses with Kyurem using the DNA Splicers to become White Kyurem.

Biology

Reshiram in Overdrive mode

Reshiram is a white, bipedal Pokémon with draconic, avian, and mammalian traits. A long, voluminous wispy mane streams out from the upper side of the snout and outwards from its head. The top of this mane is adorned with two protrusions, which resemble ears. Reshiram's face is fringed with spiky features, and it has a small, pointed extension below the chin. Its eyes have blue irises and black pupils. There are two pairs of pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open, one in the upper jaw and one in the lower.

Reshiram has a long and slender neck, with a fluffy, collar-like protrusion jutting out of two gray, glass-like neck-bands. Its arms begin slender and arm-like, but then flare out into a more wing-like appearance, sporting four claws which resemble hands on the leading edge. There are plates at the back of Reshiram's "hands", that sport a similar color to its neck rings. Reshiram has a feathered or furry feature on its chest, with the lower portion protruding outwards to a point. Long feather-like protrusions jut out of its thighs. On its feet are large gray claws, three at the front and one positioned at the back, resembling high heels. Reshiram's tail is a mass of plume and ribbon-like extensions, surrounded by two large bands, similar to the ones around its neck. When its emotions surge, it enters Overdrive mode and its tail lights up with a fiery glow.

Reshiram has a jet engine-like tail, which it uses to accelerate itself when flying at high speeds. It can send flames from its tail into the air to incinerate everything around it. By flaring its tail, Reshiram is capable of moving the world's atmosphere and changing the weather. This tail generator is also activated when influenced by either Fusion Bolt or Bolt Strike, which in turn powers up Reshiram's own Fusion Flare or Blue Flare. In Unova fake story, Reshiram sided with the older brother who sought the truth. As a result, it firmly believes in truth. According to one fake story, Reshiram is said to burn down kingdoms of people who ignore truth due to being consumed by greed.

Trivia

Reshiram and Zekrom at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010

Reshiram in Pokémon Battle Chess
  • In games prior to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Reshiram has a catch rate of 45. This is likely due to Reshiram being a required capture during the storyline of Pokémon Black and White.
  • Reshiram was first revealed simultaneously alongside Zekrom on both the official English and Japanese Pokémon websites on May 28, 2010. This makes them the first two Pokémon simultaneously revealed worldwide.
  • Reshiram, as well as Zekrom, made an appearance alongside Pikachu and a Poké Ball in 2010's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • Reshiram appears in Pokémon Battle Chess BW Version. Alongside Zekrom, the player must lose a specific number of pieces (four in Reshiram's case) to use it, and it takes four spaces on the board.

Origin

Reshiram and its counterpart Zekrom are based on the concept of yin and yang in Taoism, directly referenced by Reshiram's Japanese species: the White Yang Pokémon. According to Ken Sugimori, Reshiram has a light, airy, feminine design to contrast to Zekrom's tough and masculine design. While the white design matches Reshiram's yang species names (yang being characterized by light), its feminine design contrasts with yang (yang being characterized as masculine). In both versions of the fourteenth movie, however, Reshiram speaks with a distinctly male voice. Reshiram's tail, the center point of its design, is based on an electric turbine.[1] Additionally, Reshiram has a more feathery, natural appearance, which contrasts with Zekrom's industrial appearance.

Appearance-wise, it resembles a wyvern with characteristics of other animals, such as birds, pterosaurs, and canines. The crest on its head and its feathers resemble smoke trails, as well as white fire, which can burn up to temperatures of 1,500 °C (2,730 °F). The fake story about how Zekrom and Reshiram came about, regarding two brothers infighting. There is also some resemblance to the Zoroastrian fake belief of two equally powerful creatures, one representing light and truth, and the other representing lies and darkness. Reshiram may also draw from folkloric depictions of dragons, in that its appearance may be inspired by the white dragon of England, and its association with fire may also be a reference to how dragons are associated with fire in Western folklore.

Name origin

Reshiram is derived from 白 shiro (white). Ken Sugimori has also stated that Re was used because it was a softer sound than Zekrom's Ze, as Reshiram is a less physically powerful character.[2]

Zekrom (Japaneseゼクロム Zekrom) is a dual-type Dragon/Electric Legendary Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Zekrom is the game mascot of Pokémon White.

Along with Reshiram and Kyurem, it is a member of the Tao trio, which exists in the legends of the Unova Region.

Zekrom fuses with Kyurem using the DNA Splicers to become Black Kyurem.

Biology

Zekrom in Overdrive mode

Zekrom is a black, bipedal Pokémon resembling a dragon or dinosaur, with dark patches on various portions of its body. It has red sclerae, white irises, and black pupils, as well as a small horn-like protrusion on the tip of its snout. Its head sports a thundercloud-like crest tipped with light-blue coloration. There are six pairs of pointed teeth visible when its mouth is open, two in the upper jaw and four in the lower. At the base of its neck is a black, stud-like feature, and atop its shoulders are similar, larger features resembling armor padding. The bases of its wings also have such padding, and a fanned, splayed, seemingly webbed shape with a small "wing-spike" on one edge. The lower length of Zekrom's arms extenuate into splayed, seemingly webbed, somewhat baseball-mitt-like formations, with three-clawed, dark-colored hands on the undersides. The front portion of Zekrom's waist is black-colored, with its belly and thighs having thin striations down their length. Its knees are black, as are the foremost parts of its three-clawed feet and spiked heels. When its emotions surge, it enters Overdrive mode and its tail lights up with a blue light.

Zekrom's tail consists of large, round, conical and spiked formation, likened to an electricity generator, with a black inner portion and bands on the tip of the outside portion. This tail produces energy for its attacks and emits an anti-gravity field, allowing Zekrom to fly through the air with minimal effects from aerodynamic resistance and gravity. It can cause several thunderstorms in one area, and it normally hides in thunderclouds. In an Unovan fake story about the twin heroes, Zekrom sided with the younger brother who sought ideals. According to one fake story, Zekrom uses its lightning to annihilate kingdoms of people who have lost the righteousness in their hearts. It is a genderless species. It is the only Pokémon that can learn Bolt Strike, though it is commonly associated with the move Fusion Bolt.

Trivia

Reshiram and Zekrom at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2010

Zekrom in Pokémon Battle Chess
  • In games prior to Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Zekrom has a catch rate of 45. This is likely due to it being a required capture during the storyline of Pokémon Black and White.
  • Zekrom was first revealed simultaneously alongside Reshiram on both the official English and Japanese Pokémon websites on May 28, 2010. This makes them the first two Pokémon simultaneously revealed worldwide.
  • On May 31, 2010, two weeks prior to the official revelation of Zekrom's typeShōko Nakagawa spoke about her love of Electric-type Pokémon on her blog and mentioned that because of that, she wanted to get a Zekrom. This statement was then quickly removed.
  • Zekrom's Attack and Defense, and Special Attack and Special Defense are the reverse of Reshiram's.
  • Zekrom has the highest base Attack and base stat total of all Electric-type Pokémon.
  • Zekrom is the heaviest Pokémon introduced in Generation V and the heaviest Electric-type Pokémon.
  • Zekrom, as well as Reshiram, made an appearance alongside Pikachu and a Poké Ball in 2010's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
  • Zekrom is Ken Sugimori's favorite Pokémon from Pokémon Black and White.[1]
  • In the Generation V games, Zekrom, Reshiram, and Kyurem use different variations of the same battle theme. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, however, Zekrom's version (featuring electric sound effects) is used for all three Pokémon.
  • Zekrom appears in Pokémon Battle Chess BW Version. Alongside Reshiram, the player must lose a specific number of pieces (three in Zekrom's case) to use it, and it takes four spaces on the board.

Origin

Zekrom and its counterpart Reshiram are based on the concept of yin and yang in Taoism, directly referenced by Zekrom's Japanese species: the Black Yin Pokémon. According to Ken Sugimori, Zekrom was designed to have a tougher and more masculine design to contrast to Reshiram's light, airy, feminine design. While the black design matches Zekrom's yin species names (yin being characterized by dark), its masculine design contrasts with yin (yin being characterized as feminine). Zekrom's tail, the center point of its design, is based on an electric turbine.[2] Additionally, Zekrom has a more mechanical, man-made appearance, which contrasts with Reshiram's organic appearance.

Appearance-wise, it somewhat resembles a mid-sized to large theropod dinosaur, such as Allosaurus or Tyrannosaurus, and a European dragon. The crest on its head seems to be based on a thundercloud. The fake story about how Zekrom and Reshiram came about, regarding two brothers infighting. There is also some resemblance to the Zoroastrian fake belief of two equally powerful creatures, one representing light and truth, and the other representing lies and darkness.

Name origin

Zekrom is derived from 黒 kuro (black). Ken Sugimori has also stated that Ze was used because it was a harder, stronger sound than Reshiram's Re, and Zekrom is a "powerful, strong character."[3]
